Jessie L Fuentes, ME.d Educational Leadership Co-Chair
Jessie L. Fuentes is an activist and educator in the Humboldt Park Community in Chicago, IL. Fuentes pursued her Bachelors of Art in Justice Studies and Latino and Latin American Studies and soon after sought her Masters of Education in Community and Teachers Leadership at Northeastern Illinois University. Fuentes has done work around empowering young people in the community, the release of Oscar Lopez Rivera, anti-gentrification work, education reform, and work around the independence of Puerto Rico. Fuentes began her political work as the Director of a youth organization in Humboldt Park called the Batey Urbano. The Batey offered young people in the community an alternative space in which they can creatively express themselves through the means of theatre, poetry, hip hop, and dance.
Fuentes is currently the Dean of Student Affairs at Dr. Pedro Albizu Campos Puerto Rican High School, the Coordinator of National Boricua Human Rights Network, and the Co-Chair of the Puerto Rican Agenda in Chicago. Fuentes strives to see a more just world through advocacy and policy.
